What’s new in the hip-hop world? The same ol’ beef.
Only this time, it’s between Ludacris, Big Sean, and Drake. I know.
To be honest, I would have preferred a Wayne and Drake beef.
Anyways, Chris Bridges is back with a vengeance. It’s “move bitch get out the way” time.
Big Sean & Drake Beef With Ludacris
It all started with Luda’s hit single “My Chick Bad” back in 2010. In the song, Ludacris used what is commonly referred to as the #hashtag flow. Drizzy had an issue with that because he felt like rappers were jacking his rhyme style and abusing it (oh, Aubrey). He then traced back the origins of the #hashtag flow to Little Sean who was 22 years old at the time…LOL. But wait, there’s more. Drake even had the nerves to take one of Luda’s lines in the song and basically call it corny. Again, this was back in 2010.
In March 2011, Big Sean talked about the whole Drake situation in an interview and did in fact crown himself as the originator of the one-word-style heavily used in the supa dupa lyrics. Again, this was back in March 2011.
Fast forward to November 2011.
Luda Lyrics – Bada Boom & History Lesson
4 days ago, Ludacris dropped his latest mixtape 1.21 Gigawatts: Back To The First Time. And on tracks 4 and 5, he decided to take shots at Drake and Big Sean (check the Badaboom lyrics). About what though? The whole “My Chick Bad” incident. Really? It’s been like a year already. No one remembers any of that. In fact, I can’t even recall the last time I heard of Ludacris (musically). It looks like Big Sean and Drake kept him up at night…for the last 8 months. Insecure much?
Let’s take a look at Luda, Drake, and Big Sean in 2011. Luda? Irrelevant. Drake and Big Sean? Very relevant. Aside from topping Big Ghost’s 3rd Annual Softest N****s In The Game, both Drake and Little Sean are having a big year. Sean had mainstream success with his debut album Finally Famous and is currently on the road for his I Am Finally Famous Tour. Drake just dropped his highly-anticipated sophomore album Take Care and is currently on the Club Paradise Tour. So where does Ludacris fit into all of this? Nowhere. That’s the reason why Luda “somehow” decided to release his mixtape on the same day as Take Care. And while the diss tracks continue to make noise on the internet, Drake’s Take Care is on pace to sell 700,000 copies in the first week. Congrats to Luda for staying relevant in his most irrelevant year. SMH.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m just making a case about the timing. I’m not mad at him for responding to Drake & Sean calling him out. In fact, I totally agree with what Luda has to say about the origins of the “super duper flow”. Take credit only when it’s due. Do your homework. “History Lessons” skit clearly shows that emcees like Notorious B.I.G, Q-Tip & Camron have previously used the #hashtag flow. Luda is a legend and I truly respect him for everything he’s done – from the crossover into acting to all the luda songs, ludacris albums that went platinum (yes, even the ludacris headphones). But this shit right here? Come on son.
Update (11/19/11): Big Sean Interview
Big Sean responds to Ludacris diss.
-”I think he’s referring to an interview I did like a year ago”
-”I didn’t even know he cared that much for over a year to be still thinking about that interview”
-When asked if he thinks Luda is doing this to stay relevant: “Yo I can’t even tell you why another man would do that” Well, Luda does it. Boyyyyyyyyy.
Update (11/23/11): Ludacris Bada Boom Music Video

Luda’s timing to return shots? Questionable.
To each is own. That’s the beauty of it all.
